Frequently Asked Questions

+ What is an electric bike (e-bike) and what makes it different from a regular bike?

An electric bike is just like a regular bike, except for 4 main electrical components: the battery, motor, controller and display. Other than that, it will function and ride just like a normal bicycle.

The Espin eBike is a pedal assist bike, which uses the motor to increase the power created when you pedal. So it rides and turns just like a regular bike, it just makes riding easier, especially uphill.

+ What is Espin made of?

Espin pedal-assist eBikes are made from 6061 aerospace grade aluminum alloy.

+ Can I ride my Espin pedal-assist e-bike in the rain?

Yes, we have waterproofed all the wiring and electrical connections so it can withstand rain. Of course, one should not let the bike just completely soak in the rain if possible, but there is no need to worry about riding in rain.

+ Can I assemble it myself?

Yes! The assembly takes less than 15 minutes and we even provide all the tools you need. If you run into any issues, you can follow along in the assembly video.

+ What maintenance is required?

Maintenance is exactly the same as a regular bike other than the four main electrical components: battery, motor, controller, display. You should do basic tune-ups on your bike after the first 100 miles. Regular tire pressure checking is important as you want to keep your tires inflated for maximum riding comfort.

Other than that, the electrical components should require minimal maintenance and if any issues arise, please follow the instructions to diagnose the issue, which will be included in the user manual. If you are still unable to fix the problem, please submit a warranty claim and we will process your claim as soon as we can as we understand you want to get back on the road as quickly as possible.

Great Bike

Fit and finish is great
The electrics operate great
The derailer needed adjustment
The geometry of the frame and handlebars is a bit difficult for a short person

Problems with bike

I have multiple problems with the operation of my bike, First, the limits on my derailleur were not set correctly and the chain fell off twice and resulted in a visit to the bike shop for repairs. The crank on my bike was bent and hitting the guide for back brakes. The back hydraulic brake was not working. I took it too the local bike shop but they did not have the appropriate tools to work with the brand of brakes on the bike.
All that being said, customer service has been very prompt and helpful to hopefully get my bike back on the road.

Powerful Bike

We recently purchased two Espin Nesta Bikes. There’s a lot to like about these bikes and of course a few things that could be improved.
Let’s start with the best features. These bikes have power. My wife and I ride together and there’s barely a difference in the bike response between our bikes even though I probably outweigh her by 100lbs. This thing can haul me up steep hills at close to top speed. I also was expecting my battery to wear down faster. So far this hasn’t happened. 20-25 mile rides and both bikes discharged at about the same rate. Again a pleasant surprise.
Some of the best features include the thumb activated throttle, this gives you complete use of the handgrips with no risk of accidental throttle. The stock seat is very comfortable. Thought for sure we’d be looking for an upgrade but the included seat is fine. The bike is very simple to use. Turn on the battery, power up the bike, choose a level and off you go. The “fat” tires are cool as they give lots of stability on and off road. While I wouldn’t go full tilt mountain biking on this model it handles off road trails, the beach, gravel roads and dirt roads really well. Ergonomically the bike is well designed and appears to be very well constructed. The bikes are outfitted with great shocks and disc brakes which make the riding experience just that much better.
Some areas for improvement. Yes it’s a folding bike but it is awkward to fold. A better more balanced stand to rest on would help a lot. The folding handlebars fold to the opposite side of the kickstand. This makes it impossible to use the kickstand with the handlebars folded down. The bike just topples over. In general the existing kickstand is too upright for reliable usage even when the handlebars are up. A moderate breeze will blow the bike over so I’m always looking for something to brace it against when parking it.
The display screen is a disappointment. The display itself needs to be brighter. It’s difficult to see it in daylight but the big issue is the screen itself. It’s plastic and is easily scratched. The first time we transported the bikes in a folded configuration one screen was badly scratched just from incidental contact. We’ve since fashioned covers for them but it’s too late for the one screen.
We originally ordered these bikes in December 2020 and didn’t actually receive them until late March 2021. I realize shipping and importing has been difficult. Just be aware that the delivery times promised on the web(at least in our case) are way off. One bike frame was scratched from shipping wear and tear. One bike was missing some hardware. Fortunately it was just nuts and bolts that were easily acquired at Lowe’s and the scratches are just cosmetic. The enclosed instructions aren’t very helpful and the online support is for other Espin models. There is not yet any on line video tutorials for this specific model. Overall we’re happy enough now that we have the bikes and we’re on the road.
